Astana Bilim-Innovation lyceum for gifted boys is a Candidate School* for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Astana Bilim-Innovation lyceum for gifted boys believes is important for our students. *Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
The International Baccalaureate offers an international educational program with a unified curriculum for all participating countries. The IB program incorporates the best practices from the school education systems of participating countries. However, the IB does not replace national education systems; instead, it elevates them to a qualitatively new level above the national standard. Currently, the IB program is officially authorized in 4,527 schools across 147 countries worldwide. In Kazakhstan, 14 schools are authorized.
The IB offers four educational programs:
- For early years and primary students aged 3-12 (PYP - Primary Years Programme);
- For middle school students aged 11-16 (MYP - Middle Years Programme);
- A diploma program for high school students aged 16-18 (DP - Diploma Programme);
- A career-related program for ages 16-19 (CP - Career-related Programme).
Any educational institution that shares the IB philosophy and meets its rigorous academic, social, and technological standards required for all member schools may join the International Baccalaureate.
The main goal of the IB program is to develop students' independent work skills, planning abilities, and capacity to conduct both individual and collaborative experiments and research. The program aims to foster the well-rounded development of students' creative abilities and to shape their personalities.
Advantages of IB Schools:
- The IB provides students with extensive academic opportunities.
- The IB meets the strictest academic standards.
- The IB's standards are trusted by the administrations of top universities worldwide.
- The IB diploma is recognized in most countries.
At present, our school is authorized for the IB PYP, MYP and DP.
IB Learner Profile Model
MYP projects give students the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned in the MYP programme. In schools where the 5th year of the MYP is taught, all students must complete a personal project. In programmes that include the 4th or 5th year of the MYP, schools may give students the opportunity to complete both projects — community and personal. In schools where the 3rd or 4th year of the MYP is taught, all students must complete a community project.
- The Community Project encourages students to explore their right and responsibility to engage in community service through action in their own community. Students may complete the community project individually or in small groups.
- The Personal Project is completed independently by each student; it must represent genuinely personal and creative work, which is used for the final assessment of the student’s ability to work independently.
